Duke of Edinburgh Award
Students in the 14-19 Department work towards achieving a Bronze and/ or Silver DofE Award through a structured programme of activities. The Bronze Award is divided into different sections: skills, volunteering and physical which will be completed every week for at least an hour a week for 3 months. Students will also undertake a 2-day overnight expedition which is all planned by the participants. The Silver Award is also divided into different sections, yet activities will be completed over a 6-month time period. The expedition for the Silver Award is 3 days and 2 nights. For this expedition students are expected to plan routes, menus and campsite activities whilst also completing their walks. A highlight of the expedition for many is the task that they have to complete, such as photography which they have to present to a panel upon their return.
During the academic year 2021-2022 there were twenty-one students that successfully achieved the Bronze Award by taking part in a range of activities including litter picks, volunteering at the local care home and setting up a community shop. Students completed their expedition on the Malvern Hills and enjoyed the sunshine, cooked on camping stoves and slept under the stars.
During the academic year 2022-2023 we are looking forward to offering both the Bronze and Silver Award for the first time.
