Curriculum: Intent, Implementation and Impact

EYFS
Intent For pupils to explore nature by using all of their senses. For pupils to feel happy and safe in their learning environment.For pupils to enhance and develop their play skills and their physical development whilst trying out new experiences. For pupils to develop their curiosity about the world around them.
Implementation For pupils to be supported in their learning through a breadth of outdoor experiences and activities.For pupils to be encouraged to take on some supported risks and challenges that are appropriate to the environment and the children themselves. Rich opportunities are provided for pupils to develop their likes and dislikes and are encouraged to make choices based on their preferences.
Impact To become more confident learners when participating in outdoor sessions and taking on new challenges.To build up positive relationships with their peers and the adults working alongside them. To increase their engagement levels whilst feeling safe in their learning environment.To gain greater independence in all areas of their learning.
Pre-Formal
Intent Access to a curriculum that meets their individual needs and equips them to be more independent in their learning. To develop pupils’ social skills, building up their self-esteem.To motivate pupils to take on challenges with the support of their safe person.
Implementation To provide the pupils with a variety of stimulating learning experiences. For pupils to engage with a range of sensory activities and to join in with purposeful play.Repeated learning experiences to enable pupils to embed and generalise skills.
Impact Pupils will have increased levels of engagement and participation with a wide breadth of activities.For pupils to development quality social skills and interactions with peers and teaching staff.For pupils to become more independent and gain confidence, giving them the ability to use their learnt skills across the rest of the curriculum and to prepare them for life beyond school.
Semi-Formal
Intent For pupils to gain problem solving skills, build up good relationships with their peers and become creative thinkers.For pupils to build up their confidence, enabling them to engage in their learning, challenging themselves and taking supported risks in a positive teaching environment.To ensure that all pupils have access to a bespoke curriculum that creates opportunities for progression.To support pupils to develop a greater level of independence within their learning and social situations.To provide opportunities for the pupils to understand and feel part of the world around them.
Implementation Pupils will be provided with stimulating learning experiences using a variety of approaches to support individualisation.Increased expectations in terms of independence.
