EYFS
Intent To enable pupils to encounter computing resources.To enable pupils to explore and develop their confidence in navigating technology.To develop early computing skills.
Implementation Pupils use hardware and software related to thematic learning.Pupils explore a range of cause-and-effect technology.A cross-curricular approach to computing.

Pre-Formal
Intent To have a curriculum that meets children’s needs and interests whilst promoting the progression of computing skills.To use technology to raise standards in literacy, numeracy and communication.To promote and develop safe use of the internet.
Implementation A broad and balanced computing curriculum appropriate to pupils’ ages, levels of understanding and needs.Access to multi-sensory stimulus for pupils to explore.Hands-on, practical teaching that utilises different environments.
Impact Pupils are motivated and challenged in their learning.Pupils demonstrate increased engagement and participation when using technology across the curriculum.Pupils can apply their knowledge and skills of computing in readiness for life beyond school.
Semi-Formal
Intent To cover teaching content that allows for a broad and deeper understanding of computing, and how it links to pupils’ current lives.To inspire pupils to develop an interest in the digital world and understand what part it plays in their future.Enable pupils to become confident, independent users of technology.
Implementation A skills-based approach in line with the National Curriculum.Discreet computing lessons that build on prior knowledge as well as introducing new skills.Opportunities to access a range of computer software and hardware that develop different technological skills.
Impact Pupils will use digital and technological vocabulary accurately.Pupils will develop their technical and cognitive abilities in using information and communication technologies to create, evaluate and share information.Pupils will develop an understanding of how to use the internet and technology safely and purposefully, becoming healthy and respectful digital citizens.
