Curriculum: Intent, Implementation and Impact

EYFS
Intent Begin to understand the need to respect and care for the natural environment and all living things.Aspects of geography are delivered through Mathematics and Understanding the world.To explore their natural world around them. This includes experiences through enrichment and forest school.
Implementation A highly adapted, multi-sensory and skills-based approach and through play opportunities.Repeated learning experiences to enable pupils to embed and generalise early geographical skills.To experience and capture moments in real life situations through the changing seasons and weather.
Impact Pupils develop positive attitudes and interests in the natural world around them. Pupils develop skills to make connections and links in areas of Understanding of the World. Pupils will communicate with adults and peers about the natural environment around them.
Pre-Formal
Intent Learning opportunities provided through cross curricular activities such as in Mathematics, other learning environments, including Forest School and off-site visits.   To encounter and develop early geographical skills. To support pupils to develop the necessary skills so they can access subject specific learning (Semi-formal Pathway).
Implementation A highly adapted, multi-sensory and skills-based approach.Repeated learning experiences to enable pupils to embed and generalise early geographical skills.Understanding the engagement profile of pupils is used to increase engagement in geographical learning, through planned purposeful play, sensory and community experiences.
Impact Pupils demonstrate increasing engagement and participation in an increased breadth of geographical experiences.Pupils can complete tasks and skills related to geography with greater independence. Pupils can apply the knowledge and skills developed in everyday situations, in preparation for life beyond school.
Semi-Formal
Intent To develop key life skills such as observation, navigation and enquiry in the wider community and life experiences. Inspire in pupils a curiosity and fascination about the world and its people that will remain with them for the rest of their lives. To equip pupils with knowledge about diverse places, people, resources and natural and human environments.
Implementation To be given the opportunity to engage with learning in the appropriate spaces including the local community.Offer a range of learning experiences and styles through different geographical resources and experiences. Opportunity to over learn and transfer skills will be used to encourage mastery of geographical skills.  
Impact Pupils will show a deeper understanding, showing curiosity for the community and wider world. Pupils acquire knowledge, skills, understanding and confidence in everyday community interactions and activities. Pupils can apply the knowledge and skills developed in everyday situations, in preparation for adulthood.
