Intent To ensure each pupil has access to a bespoke physical education curriculum that is closely aligned to individual needs, EHCP outcomes and IEP targets. Pupils will become more physically active for a sustained period.To develop pupils’ confidence to participate in a broad range of physical activities.
Implementation To increase engagement in learning and adult directed activities as informed by the engagement profile to increase initiation, persistence, exploration, anticipation and realisation (IPEAR). Repeated and frequent learning opportunities to practice and refine gross and fine motor skills.Use of a range of apparatus and equipment for pupils to further develop fine and gross motor skills.
Impact Pupils will develop and display high levels of physical competence and literacy that can be applied to everyday situations and in preparation for life beyond school.Engagement and concentration levels along with a desire to succeed will be evident in learners’ attitudes and approaches to physical education.Pupils will participate in everyday physical activity for enjoyment and intra-school competitive purposes.
Semi-Formal
Intent To use a range of tactics and strategies to overcome opponents in direct competition through team and individual games.Pupils appreciate what makes an effective performance and how to apply these principles individually. Develop confidence and interest to get involved in exercise, sports and activities out of school and in later life.
Implementation Deliver a broad and balanced curriculum with opportunities for progression and development in team and individual games.Promote ‘healthy competition’ amongst peers through rule specific games and activities.To place peer and self-assessment strategies at the core of PE, School Sport and Physical Activity (PESSPA).Encourage and signpost pupils to out of school sporting opportunities, e.g. Special Olympics.
