Job Description: Deputy Head Teacher Curriculum

Position: Deputy Head Teacher

Job Purpose:

The Deputy Head Teacher will play a crucial role in the leadership and management of Pitcheroak School with specific responsibility for overseeing both subject-specific and aspect-specific curricula. This role requires a dynamic and experienced educational leader who is passionate about special education and committed to enhancing the learning experiences and outcomes for all students.

Key Responsibilities:

 

Curriculum Leadership:

    • Develop, implement, and evaluate subject-specific curricula across various disciplines, ensuring they meet the diverse needs of students.
    • Lead the design and integration of aspect-specific curricula, including life skills, social development, and functional academics.
    • Ensure all curricula align with national standards and best practices in special education.

Teaching and Learning:

    • Support teachers in delivering high-quality instruction tailored to the individual needs of students.
    • Facilitate professional development opportunities focused on innovative and effective teaching strategies for special education.
    • Monitor and assess the effectiveness of teaching and learning, providing feedback and coaching to staff.

Student Support:

    • Oversee the development and implementation of individualized education programs (IEPs) and other personalized learning plans.
    • Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to address the holistic needs of students, including speech and language therapy, occupational therapy, and psychological support.
    • Foster a safe, inclusive, and positive learning environment that promotes the well-being and personal development of all students.

Leadership and Management:

    • Assist the Head Teacher in the overall leadership and management of the school, contributing to strategic planning and decision-making.
    • Lead and manage a team of teachers and support staff, fostering a collaborative and supportive working environment.
    • Oversee the performance management process, setting clear objectives and conducting regular appraisals.

Community and Stakeholder Engagement:

    • Build and maintain strong relationships with parents, carers, and external agencies to support student learning and development.
    • Promote the school’s vision, values, and achievements within the wider community.
    • Organize and participate in school events, meetings, and activities that engage stakeholders.

Compliance and Safeguarding:

    • Ensure the school complies with all relevant legislation and guidelines, particularly regarding special education needs and disabilities (SEND).
    • Uphold and promote the highest standards of safeguarding and child protection, ensuring all staff are aware of their responsibilities.
    • Maintain the Single Central Record (SCR) with accuracy and diligence.
    • Ensure compliance with all safeguarding requirements and regularly audit the SCR.

Job Description: Unqualified Teacher – Pitcheroak School

Salary: UTR1 to UTR6

Job Purpose:

To support the teaching and learning activities of students with special educational needs (SEN) under the guidance and supervision of qualified teachers and school leadership. The role focuses on delivering tailored educational support, fostering a safe and inclusive learning environment, and contributing to the overall development of students.

Key Responsibilities:

Classroom Support:

Plan and deliver lessons that cater to the individual needs of students.

Support the implementation of Individual Education Plans (IEPs).

Work with small groups or one-on-one with students to provide additional help and support where required.

Student Development:

Promote the physical, emotional, and social development of students.

Encourage student participation in classroom activities and school events.

Foster positive relationships with students to support their well-being.

Use school systems to monitor the progress of students.

Behaviour Management:

Implement the school’s behaviour management strategies to ensure a safe and supportive learning environment.

Address and report any behavioural issues in line with school policies.

Collaboration:

Work closely with phase leads, other teachers and support staff to ensure cohesive delivery of the curriculum.

Participate in staff meetings, training sessions, and professional development opportunities.

Communicate effectively with parents, guardians, and external professionals as required.

Administrative Duties:

Assist in the preparation of teaching materials and classroom resources.

Maintain accurate records of student progress and behaviour.

Support the administrative tasks related to classroom and school activities.

Assist with the writing of reports where appropriate

Personal Development:

Engage in continuous professional development to improve teaching skills and SEN knowledge.

Reflect on practice and participate in performance reviews.

Person Specification:

Qualifications and Experience:

No formal teaching qualification is required, but experience in a specialist educational setting is desirable.

Basic understanding of SEN and strategies to support students with special needs.

Willingness to undertake further training and professional development.

Skills and Abilities:

Strong interpersonal and communication skills.

Ability to work collaboratively as part of a team.

Patience, empathy, and a genuine interest in supporting children with special needs.

Good organisational skills and the ability to manage multiple tasks.
